Interacting galaxies NGC 2936 and NGC 2937 - Interacting Galaxies NGC 2936 and NGC 2937 in Hydra - These two interacting galaxies also called Arp 142 are located approximately 326 million years ago - light from Earth in the constellation Hydra. NGC 2936 is a spiral galaxy, NGC 2937 is an elliptical galaxy. Above the torque, a blue galaxy UGC 5130, located closer to us is 230 million light years. Image obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). This interacting galaxy duo is collectively called Arp 142. The pair contains the disturbed, star - forming spiral galaxy NGC 2936, along with its elliptical companion, NGC 2937 at lower left. Nebula IC 2948 in Centaurus - Nebula IC 2948 and IC 2944 in Centaurus: IC2944 - SHO 70 70 70 Bin 2 - Nebula IC 2948 is a vast nebula located about 6000 light years from Earth in the southern constellation of Centaurus. It is associated with the cluster of stars IC 2944 near which Bok's blood cells are visible. A Bok's blood cell is a dark interstellar cloud of gases and dust that absorb light. If it condenses enough, it gives birth to new stars - Image obtained through 3 different filters that highlight oxygen (in blue), hydrogen (in green), and sulfur (in red) - Between the Southern Cross and the rich Carina region, on the southern border of Centaurus, is a large, almost featureless emission nebula, IC 2948, with a sprinkling of bright stars, Collinder 249. It is against this uniform, backdrop that we see a brighter region (IC 2944) which hosts small group of dark clouds of the kind known as 'Bok globules'. Massive Stars in the Carene - Massive stars in the Carina Nebula - The image shows a cluster of stars named Trumpler 16 which contains two very massive stars, WR 25 at Tr16 - 244. WR 25 is the brightest star on the image. It is a double star composed of a star at least 50 times more massive than the Sun. Tr16 - 244 is the third brightest star in this image (top left of WR 25). It's a triple star. The second bright star in the image, to the left of WR 25, is a small star, which does not belong to this cluster and is located much closer to us. Queue d'étoiles - Moonset in the Warrumbungles - Photographic pose of several hours on the stars and the crescent moon. The picture here was made on one partially cloudy night at Siding Spring. In the foreground are the distinctive shapes of the Warrumbungle mountains in outback New South Wales. The exposure, on 400 ISO transparency film, was begun at the end of astronomical twilight, when the sun has descended 18 degrees below the horizon. There was a crescent moon and cloud around the south - western horizon. The exposure continued for several hours after the moon had set, and breaks in the star trails reveal that cloud had come and gone during the night
