Oration in defence of the Manilian Law. France; 1483. Cicero's first political speech. In 66 B.C., the tribune Gaius Manilius proposed a law extending Pompey's power over the entire east. This was opposed by the aristocracy, but Cicero, a praetor, spoke in favour of the Manilian law.
