Thunder Over Hungary - account of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956
Budapest, Monday, October 22nd 1956. Shots of protest against the Soviet occupation and for the evacuation of Soviet troops. Ammunitions, bullets, gun fights. Armed groups exchange shots with the army. Soldiers run and wounded evacuated. Guerilla warfare on the city streets. Tanks driving in. Air bombing. Ruins and death. Soviet tanks leaving Budapest in ruins. Books and flags burned along with a portrait of Lenin. The people in control are judged. Cardinal Mindszenty, anti-communist leader of the Catholic church in Hungary, is release after being unjustly imprisoned. Stalin's statue, star and any remains of the Soviet empire are destroyed or taken down. Food, flour, books are distributed to civilians. Corpses of soldiers on floor covered with posters. City in ruins. Liberation soldiers standing around amidst the ruins. November 2nd and 4th, the Soviet troops are coming back. Devastated streets with destroyed war machinery. Young people stand defiantly with ammunition.
