2011 saw the Bridgeman Art Library sponsoring the Grierson Awards for the first time. We were very proud to be the official sponsors of the Best Documentary on the Arts category.
Established in 1972, the Grierson Awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence. The Award is presented in commemoration of pioneering Scottish documentary maker John Grierson (1898 - 1972), widely regarded as the father of the documentary. Awards are given in a number of categories, including Arts, History, Science and Contemporary Theme, as well as to first time and student filmmakers.
The winners were announced at the annual awards ceremony at the BFI Southbank, London on 01 November.
Broadcaster and cultural commentator Mariella Frostrup hosted with Sky Arts HD filming the awards. Congratulations to everyone involved. It was a wonderful night.
