A renowned collection

Major artistic names in the Lukas collection include Hans Memling, Jan Provoost, Hieronymus Bosch, Peter Paul RubensHubert & Jan van Eyck.

A striking and unusual work of art in the collection is Fouquet's Virgin and Child, 1451 (Melun diptych) from The Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp.  The prominent Dutch historian, Johan Huizinga, considered it a fine example of decadence in the late Middle Ages, stating, “There is a flavour of blasphemous boldness about the whole, unsurpassed by any artist of the Renaissance".

The Ghent Altarpiece

Arguably the most prominent piece of the Lukas collection is The Ghent Altarpiece. Commissioned in the 15th century for the Saint Bavo Cathedral, Netherlands, the famous 12 paneled altarpiece (also known as The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb or The Lamb of God) is considered to mark a turning point in medieval art history.

In addition to the stunning panoramic view of The Ghent Altarpiece, Bridgeman also holds over 50 images of meticulous details available for licensing. Supplying superb high-resolution images, the quality of the photography available from the Lukas collection second to none.
