Linda Wells (C), 50, from New Mexico in the United States, thanks a Chinese volunteer for giving a blood sample which could help save Linda's adopted Chinese-born daughter Kailee, before a news conference in Beijing February 18, 2003. Linda was making a desperate plea for a bone marrow donor for Kailee. Kailee, 6, also known by her Chinese name Changban, was adopted by Linda as a baby after she was abandoned as a 10-day old on the doorstep of a teacher-training college in Hunan province in China. At the age of five, Kailee was diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia and is now critically ill. She could die within months if a suitable donor is not found. REUTERS/Wilson Chu
