Fire-fighting work by the fire brigade at the destroyed cloth factory in Schaffhausen after the bombing. The factory clock still shows the time of the attack: 10:50 a.m.. On April 1, 1944, the city of Schaffhausen and its environs became the target of American air raids due to misguided navigation. After bomber squadrons consisting of Liberator bombers dropped at least 371 incendiary and explosive bombs on the city near the German border, numerous large fires broke out. Forty people are killed.
