Image description

Creator: unknown Though the small photograph pasted on to the same sheet as this portrait has written around it the name 'Rev. R. S. Driver, D.D.' this is likely to be a portrait of S. R. Driver, or Samuel Rolles Driver (1846-1914). Samuel Rolles Driver was a biblical scholar and Church of England clergyman and Professor of Hebrew at Christ Church college, Oxford from 1881 until his death in 1914. William James Herschel became an unattached member of the theological department at Oxford in 1881 when he returned to England having retired from the Indian Civil Service.
