Abolitionist ceramic plate in white porcelain with a black transfer-print of a kneeling female slave holding a bible, broken chains beside her. Inscribed below: 'Remember them that are in Bonds'. The plate has a moulded edge. Objects such as this were produced throughout the 19th century as ways of advertising the continuation of slavery and advocating the importance of religion in eradicating it.
