Switzerland Zurich 80s Movement (b/w photo)

The youth movement began with the demonstration of the “cultural corpses” from Zurich's Bellevue to the opera house on May 30, 1980. The “youth” protested against the subsidization of the opera house; millions would be spent on the “established” but little on “alternative” culture. The subsequent 'opera house riot' was the prelude to a wave of violent clashes, in which the young people were met with complete incomprehension by civil society. The Autonomous Youth Centre (AJZ) became the focal point of the movement and was made available to young people from 28 June 1980. After a search and arrest, the AJZ was closed on 5 September 1980. As a result, serious unrest broke out and the building was occupied. Until 1982, the Limmat city did not come to rest anymore.
