Switzerland Helene Von Mülinen, 1900 (b/w photo)

Helene von Muelinen (1850-1924), the leader of the women's movement and first president of the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations. In the last decades before the turn of the 20th century, the living conditions of many women changed radically. In 1890, under the leadership of Verena Conzett of Zurich, the Central Association of Swiss Women Workers' Associations was founded. In March 1900, four women's organisations joined together to form the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations. The umbrella organization was anxious to continue to include women's associations.
