Portrait of Gerda Stocker-Meyer, undated photo. Gerda Stocker-Meyer, a journalist from Berne and a pre-fighter for women's suffrage, died on Wednesday, November 19, 1997, at the age of 85. Stocker-Meyer, in addition to her commitment to women's rights, was significantly involved in the development of the consumer movement and was one of the first women to be appointed to the supervisory bodies of the SRG. She was also head of the press service of the Swiss Centre for Refugee Aid. In 1973 the journalist, who lives in Tffen in the canton of Berne, was awarded the Dr.-Ida-Somazzi Prize.
