Switzerland Cyprus Conference, 1959 (b/w photo)

Adnan Menderes, Prime Minister of Turkey, right, and Konstantinos Karamanlis, Prime Minister of Greece, will be holding hands with the only Cyprus present, the newspaper publisher Tsangarides of Nicosia, at the Grand Hotel Dolder in Zurich, Switzerland, during the joint lunch after the closing session of the Cyprus Conference on 11 February 1959. At the conference in Zurich, partial contracts, agreements and declarations for the transition of the former British crown colony Cyprus to the independent Republic of Cyprus were debated. After further negotiations in London, Turkey, Greece, Great Britain and Cyprus sign the Zurich and London Agreements on 19 February 1959 in London, which regulate the constitutional issues of the State of Cyprus.
