A scene of the Dance of Death by the painter Niklaus Manuel on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the canton of Bern's accession to the Swiss Confederation on 20 June 1953 in front of the Federal Palace in Berne. From 1516 to 1520 Manuel painted one of the most famous depictions of the “Dance of Death”, which was located on the cemetery wall of the Preacher monastery in Berne. Around a quarter of a million people attended the festivities.
