Triptych, Girls on a Tea-house Balcony. Group of girls on a balcony listening to one of them who plays the samisen, two girls stand by the player holding a book between them, two others on right, one seated one standing, on left two other girls sitting. Signed: Kubo Shunman ga. ~Shumman took this design from Kiyonaga's book 'Ehon Monomigaoka' and rearranged it as a sheet-print triptych. From the book it is known that this is Nakadaya in the Mukojima district of Edo (Tokyo). In the centre a performer plays the three-stringed 'shamisen'. Prints in this palette became popular at the time. They were called 'benigiraie' ('pictures which hate red').
