Tomb of Imery (photo)

The tomb of Iymery, G 6020, in the Western Cemetery at Giza was exceptional. It was one of the most exquisitely decorated tombs in the cemetery; therefore, the tomb was a magnet for visits by early travelers. Its marvelous scenes of daily life, agricultural life and, above all, craftsmen at work prompted visitors and scholars to refer to it as the “Tomb of the Trades.” On the western wall of the second chamber in Iymery’s tomb this scene of winemaking is depicted. The whole manufacturing process is shown in four registers.What we see in this scene is the lowest register. Here, two men are pouring the wine from shallow containers into large storage jars. We can also see another five sealed jars full of wine.
