this piece is important for the evidence of the use of luster painting on glass prior to its employment on ceramics. the luster decoration here is of varying tones and is painted both on the inside and outside. below the inscription painted outside is a simple scroll painted on inside. the heart-shaped frames that enclose palmettes are painted on the outside and below them, on the inside, is a rosette of twelve petals. the vessel was probably originally a goblet whose stem has been broken off and its shape was common in roman times but it remained rare in the islamic period-goblet-luster painted glass-inv.n.23284-Abbasid second half of the 8th century-MIA - 08 07 09 039
