L'Arringatore. A figure wearing toga and sandals raises his hand to deliver an address. Aule Metele (Arringatore), from Cortona, Italy, early 1st century B.C.E., bronze, 67 inches high . Based on the inscription on the statue, the figure is identified as Aulus Metellus (or Aule Metele in Etruscan). He is clearly a magistrate and his posture seems to be that of the orator who is in the process of addressing the crowd. Etruscan civilization, 1st century b.C.
