Piranesi labels the image as a 'View of the Upper Floor of the Cages for Wild Animals built by Domitian, associated with the Flavian Amphitheatre and commonly called the Curia Hostillia'. However the structure was later identified as the remains of the Temple of Claudius on the Celian Hill.
