Penley, Edwin Aaron drawing, watercolour and bodycolour on paper (on card), entitled View Near Dolgelly, by the artist Edwin Aaron Penley The three peaks of the ridge of Cader Idris dominate the background of this view near the Vale of Dolgelly, Wales. This area features several lakes and rivers in beautiful surroundings. Edwin Penley painted many mountain scenes in a bright, detailed, and rather static style. Many of his pictures are on a very large scale. Wild landscape views of Wales and Scotland became very popular in the mid-19th century. Penley's success led to him being appointed drawing master to King William IV and Queen Adelaide.
