Thai inmate Sangwien Somsrin, watched by a warden, prepares food for ducks at Koktaban prison farm in Surin province, 454 km northeaswt of Bangkok. Sangwien was sentenced to 10 years for killing a man at a wedding reception while in a blind drunken rage. Koktaban is a prison, one of 39 farms across Thailand used to house an overspill from the country's crowded jails. Koktaban operates a combined system of plantation and husbandry, [combining rice and vegetable production with cows, pigs and chicken, fish farming and the growing of fruit.] The system, called "Integrated Farming" has been encouraged by [Thai King Bhumibol Adulyade], and is designed to maximise food production sold to the local market and in nearby prisons.
