WAKF SHEIKH YACOUB RAJABI AT DISPUTED BUILDING IN JERUSALEM, 1997-04-30 (photo)

Sheikh Yacoub Rajabi of the Islamic Religious Authority, or Wakf, stands in the disputed area on the al-Khanqa mosque April 30, which he claims is being renovated into bathrooms and not, as the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate claims is property recently taken from the church. The Greek Orthodox church and the Wakf are in a row over property in the vicinity of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, traditional site of Christ's crucifixion, in the Old City of Jerusalem. The Wakf has denied the Greek church's claim they have sealed over two rooms and claim they are carrying out renovations. MIDEAST ROW
