The Trabant car. East German VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerk. Trabant began manufacturing 1957 and production lasted until 1991. A total of 3 051385 Trabants were made. Trabant was developed as East Germanys answer to Volkswagen and the vision of a car for the people. It was called Trabbi or Trabi and became the most common car in East Germany. Trabant came to be somewhat of a symbol for East Germany during the time of the fall of the Berlin wall. Picture taken in Trabant carfactory in Sachsen in the 1960s. The young woman standing at the assembly line has the typical hairdo of the 1960s, the Beehive. A popular hairdo of the time where the goal was to create volume and height leaving the neck bare and elegant.
