this volume is typical of one of the styles current in the ninth century under the Abbasids.characteristic letterforms include the independent alif with a little right-facing hook and the nun with a descending vertical stroke. each page displays eighteen lines. the red dots that appear to be sprinkled on the pages denote vocalization. the calligrapher was concerned to mantain a roughly even spacing between groups of letters, rather than between words, with the result that words are frequently split between lines-Qur'an-ink on parchment-inv.n.24145-Abbasid 9th century-IMG_6103
