Image description

9mm Halcon Sub-Machine Gun ‘Model’ Light 1963. Originally a police model developed in the 1940s, the Halcon was adopted by the British Army and its calibre changed from .45 inch to 9mm. The gun was modified over a period of twenty years using more modern production methods which lightened its construction. However, it was thought to have become obsolete in 1960. This gun, designated 'Model Light' 1963, includes several features from the standard Army PAM sub-machine gun, including a sliding tubular stock, a more definite foregrip and a smaller straight magazine. This may have been a means of rationalising production of the two types. One interesting feature of this weapon is the dual pattern trigger; the rear provides fully automatic fire, the front semi-automatic. Photographic evidence supports the probability that these weapons were still in frontline use in the Falklands (1982).
