On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "This subject occurs over & over again in this series. The same may be said regarding the old Crown Inn; The old curious Assembly Rooms in Fort St; Nos 2 & 3 St. Barnabas' Square; the houses between the Coffee Palace & Parade St., Cain's, 4 New Bond St., & possibly some others. For this reason: early on I found, that films, developed in the season got scant washing, many having to be discarded, encrusted with Hypo. Others were attacked by some chemical in the developer, not eliminated, & were done for. Any of these P.C. prints can be copied on a plate, no matter what happens to a Film. Probably the best of this subject. The last in this route is the best although taken in March sun & shade."
