The Faith (Fides). Botticelli and the brothers Piero and Antonio Pollajuoli were commissioned for the Mercantanzia (Commercial Court) in Florence to represent the seven cardinal virtues in individual figures. The Pollajuoli executed the Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Charity, Fides and Spes, but Botticelli only the Fortitudo, although, as the present Fides design shows, he dealt with the other virtues. All seven paintings in the Uffizi. Silver point drawing heightened on red prepared paper, washed with a brush and heightened with white. Botticelli und die Brüder Piero und Antonio Pollajuoli erhielten den Auftrag, für die Mercantanzia (Handelsgericht) in Florenz die sieben Kardinaltugenden in einzelnen Figuren darzustellen. Die Pollajuoli führten die Prudentia, Justitia, Temperantia, Caritas, Fides und Spes aus, Botticelli aber nur die Fortitudo, obwohl er, wie der vorliegende Fides-Entwurf zeigt, sich auch mit den anderen Tugenden befasste. Sämtliche sieben Gemälde in den Uffizien. Silberstiftzeichnung auf rot grundiertem Papier, mit dem Pinsel laviert und weiss gehöht.
