Image description

The Matterhorn lunatics. Two climbers, in their early twenties, Walter Bonatti from Monza and Roberto Bignami from Milan, managed to accomplish a feat by the technicians considered a madness and which they had already had to give up the most famous mountain guides, the winter climb of the east ridge of the Matterhorn. The ascension lasted a day and a half. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 5 April 1953.
