Third Reich - German refugees from Poland 1939

The picture from a Nazi news resport shows German refugees fleeing across the border from Poland in Beuthen, today Bytom, Poland, August 1939. The original propaganda text on the back of the picture reads: "The last move. On Sunday, the last Reich Germans who were living in Poland arrived to German territory after terrible difficulties with their possessions. Since Monday the border has been closed at Beuthen (our picture)." There was always tension between Germany and Poland due to the division of German territory in Poland after World War One. It became critical in early 1939. The was clearly reflected in Nazi propaganda shortly before the German army attacked on 01 September 1939. The attack on Poland was the start of WWII.
