The Walhalla is a hall of fame that honours distinguished people in German history. The hall is housed in a neo-classical building above the Danube River, east of Regensburg, in Bavaria, Germany. Named after Valhalla of Norse mythology. It was conceived in 1807 by Crown Prince Ludwig, and built between 1830-42 when he was King Ludwig I of Bavaria, under the supervision of architect Leo von Klenze. The memorial displays some 65 plaques and 130 busts of persons, covering 2,000 years of history – the earliest person honored is Arminius, victor at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (9 AD). Built on a raised terrace overlooking the Danube near Donaustauf, east of Regensburg. This view shows the South pediment frieze which features the 1815 creation of the German Confederation and the 1813-15 War of Liberation
