The cavalry soldiers of Guy I, Count of Ponthieu (died 1010), shirt vetus, short panties and shoes, with sword worn on the belt and hat (89, 91, 92,93 and 94). None of them wear a coat, not even the troop leader. Their shields were decorated with various figures, a style that reappeared in the 12th century, for the decoration of the shields was necessary when the faces were covered by the heaumes and the fighters made unidentifiable. Hand-coloured copper engraving, in “Images historiques des costumes des principaux peuples de l'Antiquite et du Middle Ages” by Robert Von Spalart, published in 1796.
