Hundreds of opposition students scuffle with police outside the Presidential palace in Dhaka while trying to storm through a barbed wire barricade October 11. The students were trying to hand over a memorandum to Bangladesh President Shahabuddin Ahmed to protest against a recent spate in rape incidents at Jahangirnagar University, 25 km from the capital. Later they handed the memorandum to a police officer for delivering to the president's personal staff and dispersed. Police said at least 20 female students had been raped and nearly 300 molested at the university in past several months, triggering widespread panic on the campus. AN/FY/CLH/
