Sep. 09, 1953 - B.E.A. Still In Air Race.: Mr. Peter Masefield, Chief Executive of British European Airways, said today that they withdrew entry from next week's trans-world air race early this year, but after” top-level” talks they re-entered a Vickers Viscount airliner. The Vickers Viscount R.M.A.” Endeavour”, the gaw- turbined powered airliner is now ready for the contest, the longest and most arduous ever planned. The plane will be the sole representative of Britain in the Transport Handicap Section of the race which is a separate race from the speed section and is based on the formula in which credit will be given not only for the time contestants take to complete the 12,000 miles journey across the world, but also for the payload they carry.
