On 15 April 1989, 96 football fans - men, women and children - were crushed to death during a rush to get into the Hillsborough football ground in Sheffield, Yorkshire. The match, an FA cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, was held at the home ground of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. The Taylor Report, an inquiry into the disaster, found the cause to be failure of police control.
