RUNNER FALLS AS BULLS JUMP AND CHARGE IN PAMPLONA, 1999-07-12 (photo)

A Spanish bull runner falls just as a fighting bull jumps past him (behind) and another quickly approaches (L), led expertly by another runner in the fifth running of the bulls during the famed "Fiesta de San Fermin" July 12. The six "toros bravos", or fighting bulls, from the Jandilla ranch that ran through the old city streets this morning will be fought and killed in a bullfight this afternoon. There are two more "encierros", or bull runs, remaining in the week-long festival. The young man rolled out of the way and did not get injured in this area of the 900-metre course as it finishes at the entrance of the bullring when bulls and runners pass through a dark tunnel into the light of the "plaza del toros", or bullring.
