Polaroid land camera, model 95, 1948-1953. An example of the first commercially produced Polaroid camera, designed by Edwin H Land (1909-1991), and first manufactured in 1948. The model 95 was loaded with the Polaroid Land Picture Roll consisting of one large roll of treated paper containing positive materials and one small roll of paper containing negative materials. As an image developed on the negative paper, unused silver salts diffused through the developer to form an image on the positive paper. The whole operation took about one minute, after which a door would be opened at the back of the camera allowing the 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch (8.3cm x 10.8cm) print to be peeled off the negative. ©SSPL/National Media Museum
