Performance protest (photo)

Artists from all fractions staged '˜Khachar Biruddhe', a performance in front of Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban (National Assembly) to protest the ongoing construction of iron fencing around the complex. According to Parliament Secretariat, the fencing was necessary to prevent incidents of theft, robbery and nuisance inside the complex, particularly at night. The protestors argued that the fencing was uncivil, and quite a futile attempt to safeguard the edifice which is not only an architectural marvel but a symbol of national identity as well. Around the world, democratic values in public buildings are suggested or ensured by providing public accessibility, at least visually if not physically. Dhaka, Bangladesh. March 14, 2014.
