Video description

Lesbian and Gay Pride Marches were community affairs in the early days. There were no barriers between the viewers and the marchers. Often marchers would spot friends on the sidelines and stop to talk and watch the march for a while, rejoining the march when other friends or interesting groups passed by. Similarly, people who started out watching would spot friends and join the march. Thus there was a fluidity to the event and no clear distinction between observer and participant – everybody was part of the community. Also, as this was a community event, people marched as individuals or as members of community organizations or ad hoc groups (e.g., Fags Against Facial Hair). The only corporate floats represented bars, not huge international corporations. 01:44- NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association) (also 03:38) 01:55- American Gay Atheists 02:05- Rudy Grillo 03:17- Bagel And… (This restaurant occupied the space where the Stonewall Inn had been.) 03:32- Mobilization for Survival 03:43- David Thorstad (05:21) 04:12- The Guardian (the small radical leftist newspaper from the U.S, not the U.K. daily) “Capitalism is the Real Perversion” 05:25- Dominic Florio 05:34- Nelson Gonzalez 06:04- People lounging on the Pulitzer Fountain 06:50- GCN (Gay Community News, the weekly out of Boston) 08:09- Reproductive Rights National Network 08:20- CARASA (Committee for Abortion Rights and Against Sterilization Abuse) 08:43- ARC (AIDS Resource Center, later Bailey House) 09:00- Richard Dworkin, John Bernd (dancing in suspenders) 11:38- Gay Teachers 11:56- Radical Women
