Image description

Florida Marlins' manager Tony Perez and third baseman Mike Lowell (R) argue with umpire Kerwin Danley (C) that New York Mets' runner Rey Ordonez (10) is out at third base, in the fourth inning July 18, 2001 at New York's Shea Stadium. Runner Todd Zeile was caught in a rundown between home and third base and went back to third base to find runner Rey Ordonez already there. Ordonez was the runner who was out, but Zeile left the base and Ordonez stayed and Perez argued both were thus out. The umpires agreed with Perez, but then reversed themselves and ruled that Danley had made an error and they awarded Zeile third base. Perez was incensed and thrown out of the game after the umpires changed their ruling. RFS/HB
