Image description: Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden. Born 30 April 1946. On Wednesday 19 September 1973, the new King swore the royal oath before the government in the council chamber. He then appeared before the Riksdag, the diplomatic corps and the Court in the Rikssalen at the Royal Palace. There, according to tradition, he gave a memorial speech for the deceased monarch. The Council and the ceremony from the Rikssalen were broadcast live on TV. More than 25,000 people had gathered at Norrbro to pay tribute and receive the new regent, Carl XVI Gustaf. The king adopted "For Sweden - In the time" as the election language. The electoral language indicated the King's aspiration to fulfill the demands that society places on a modern monarch.
