Aug. 08, 1954 - Plane crashes in Road - R.A.F. Pilot swerves through Hedge to save Paris Airliner: The pilot of a twin engined R.A.F. Anson aircraft making an emergency landing at Northolt today swerved his plane off the runway with passengers on board. The Anson careered 150 yards then crashed through the hedge and a cross West-End road. It narrowly missed a bus and finished up about 200 yards from the runway facing the direction in which it had been travelling. The pilot, Air Commodore Cedric Bell, had taken off from White Waltham R.A.F. Station, Bucks. He was flying over Nortbolt when he was forced to land because of engine trouble. He did not have time to circle the airfield and land in the wind, but was forced to attempt to touch on the runway he saw the Vickers aircraft preparing to take off and swerved his machine on to the grass. The air commodore had severe face injures the other two fliers in the plane suffered shock
