AMERICAN AIRLINES PASSENGER AND HER DOG WAIT FOR FLIGHT, 1999-02-11 (photo)

Mary Dukes, a dog trainer, sits in the American Airlines terminal at John. F. Kennedy International Airport, with her dogs and cages, awaiting a return flight after her flight to San Diego was canceled February 10. Dukes was trying to travel after showing the dogs in her care at the annual Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden. A number of Westminster Dog Show competitors were booked on American Airlines, and were left stranded at the metro New York City Airports due to a work slowdown by the airline's pilots. Later in the day, American won a court order telling its pilots to end the slowdown that has grounded 40 percent of its daily flights and disrupted travel ahead of the long President's Day weekend. sef/Photo by Steven E.
