Image description: The High Level bridge is a combined road and railway bridge, built in 1849 with cast iron and ashlar, with the road on the lower beam, with segmental iron arches and beams supporting the railway above, as well as the five ashlar piers across the river. At the northern end of the bridge is a large round arch, and the southern end is supported by an iron cage on four iron columns. Behind the bridge the Swing Bridge and New Tyne Bridge can just be seen, as well as industrial buildings on both sides of the river.
