Image description

The harbour piers were constructed in the 18th century, and extended in 1798, due to the export of herring and lime from the kilns. The kilns were constructed 1798, and extended later by Richard Pringle. The extensions for both sites were made for John Wood of Beadnell Hall. The three circular kilns were built with randon rubble and pink sandstone dressings, and stand at around 30ft high. The kilns are interlocking, but are divided at the base by tunnel passages.
