The graceful, elongated curving lines of this picture are characteristic of the style of the Glasgow School of Art. Francis Newbery (known as Fra) was Head of the Glasgow School of Art from 1885 to 1918, and was an influential teacher. His wife Jessie Newbery taught embroidery at the School.
