opened in 1911, the Grade I listed building is the purpose-built home of the Royal Liver Assurance; designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas (1864-1934), it is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the city of Liverpool and is home to two fabled Liver Birds that watch over the city and the sea. One of first multi-storey, reinforced concrete, steel-framed buildings in the world; cladded with granite. Clock made by Gent and Co of Leicester, originally named George clocks because they started at precise time that King George V was crowned on 22 June 1911. The Liver Birds were designed by Carl Bernard Bartels (1866-1955)
