Antonella Naglieri places a flower in the sand at Smith Point Park in Smith Point, New York, in memory of her relative Giuseppe Mercurio who died in the crash of TWA flight 800, on the fifth anniversary of the crash July 17, 2001. 230 people died when the Boeing 747 bound for Paris crashed in waters just south of Long Island, New York on July 17, 1996. Family members and friends of the victims of the crash gathered at Smith Point Park, the closest point on land to where the plane crashed, for a memorial service and candlelight vigil to mark the fifth anniversary.
