David Lodge ( 1935) English novelist, screenwriter, playwright and literary critic. Best known for his novels satirizing academic life, particularly the 'Campus Trilogy': Changing Places (1975), Small World (1984), and Nice Work (1988). Becamee professor of English Literature at Birmingham in 1976. He has written two fictionalised biographies, Author Author, about Henry James (2004) and A Man of Parts about H .G. Wells (2011). He has won numerous awards, including Whitbread Book of the Year (1980) for his novel How Far Can You Go? Various of his works have been adapted for television. Was appointed CBE for his services to literature in 1998.
