Phoenician Traders on the Coast of Britain. The Phoenicians were the earliest commercial travellers and middlemen - buying, selling and bartering with all the peoples around the Mediterranean, extending their commerce over all the countries of Asia and Europe, and as far even as Britain. From the discovery at Stonehenge of Egyptian beads of twelfth dynasty date - which were almost certainly brought there by Phoenician merchants - it appears that their commerce with Britain dates from at least the 14th Century BC.
