Honduran residents stand in line November 6 as they wait for crossing an improvised bridge in the northern city of La Ceiba after Hurricane Mitch swept away the bridge which connected La Ceiba surroundings. Heavy rains from Hurricane Mitch, one of the worst recorded storms ever to hit Central America, caused rivers to back up all throughout Honduras last weekend. [As the death toll climbed steadily toward 11,000, with another 13,000 missing across devastated parts of Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala, Mitch became the most destructive Atlantic storm since The Great Hurricane of 1780, blamed for 22,000 deaths in the eastern Caribbean. ]
